21 poses for a male portrait

This is a quote from Magic_Psychology Post Original post 21 male portrait poses

IN

In a previous article, I talked about the basic poses for a female portrait. Now let’s look at the same starting points for a male portrait. Men tend to feel less comfortable during the shoot and find it harder to relax, so it’s important to help the man act naturally in order to get good results.

Preparing for a photo session is always good. One more piece of advice – include in this process the person you are going to shoot. He will feel more confident if he knows the action plan, what needs to be done and what result is expected. Show this cheat sheet to your model, it’s a great way to prepare the subject for a photo shoot and help her feel more relaxed and confident.

So, let’s look at the basic poses for men.

1. A very simple pose for a male portrait: with crossed arms. Pay attention to two things: the shoulders should be straightened, the stomach should be tucked up.

2. The crossed-arms pose also works well for full-length portraits. Also ask the model to cross her legs one in front of the other. Make sure that the weight of the body is transferred mainly to one leg, otherwise the posture will be ugly and uncomfortable. IN

3.. The most common question in photography is: “Where do I put my hands?”. Actually, the solution is quite simple. There are four hand positions that can be used in any combination.
Hang freely on the sides of the body.
Hands on hips
hands in pockets
Arms crossed on chest

In addition, the arms should be relaxed, no need to strain the muscles (unless you are bodybuilding)

4.B. Natural pose for a standing man. Men do have trouble shooting with hand placement, so keeping them all or part of them in the side pockets can help achieve a natural and relaxed pose.

These pose templates only serve as a starting point. Remember that there are no standards and every pose can and should be adjusted depending on the shooting conditions and scenario. You don’t have to follow them literally. In fact, all that is needed for a good portrait is the simplicity and naturalness of a person. Simple backgrounds, simple clothes, simple poses and natural emotions.
