Iso-therapy – correction of fears in children with the help of a drawing!

Some of you consider drawing a frivolous thing and one-sidedly replace it with reading and other intellectually more useful, from your point of view, activities. However, scientific research in the field of isotherapy confirms that children who love to draw are more imaginative, spontaneous in expressing feelings and flexible in their judgments. They can easily put themselves in the place of another person or character in a drawing and express their attitude towards him, as this happens every time in the process of drawing.

Isotherapy or drawing can have not only a developing effect on a child, but also a positive psychological effect: get rid of fears, fears, and nervous shocks.

Isotherapy for a child is a tool that helps him understand himself and his feelings.

How to eliminate fears with the help of isotherapy?

Fears are drawn with pencils, felt-tip pens or paints. I would like to say a few words about who gives the task to draw fear.

If this is an outsider and benevolent person, then the effect of drawing is higher than when the task is given by the parents. This is especially noticeable when parents have discredited themselves in the representation of children and are trying to eliminate their fears by hiding their own.

Through drawing, first of all, it is possible to eliminate the fears generated by the imagination, that is, what has never happened, but can happen in the mind of the child. This is followed by fears based on real traumatic events, but which happened quite a long time ago and left an emotional trace that is not very pronounced by now in the child’s memory.

Elimination Methods:

1. “Deal with fear.”

After the child has drawn his fear, psychologists recommend crushing the drawing, tearing it into small pieces, or setting it on fire in front of the baby. When the paper burns out, take a clean sheet, cover the ashes with it and rub it. So you get a print and a new interesting image. It can be considered with a child and completed to a new joyful image.

2. “I’m not scared”.

The child should draw his fear as if he is not afraid of it. For example, a child draws a dog that he leads on a leash. And he says: “The dog is kind, she is my friend.” But not all children can paint their fear as pathetic.

In addition to drawings, fears can be embodied in the form of masks specially made at home, plasticine figurines, constructions from improvised materials. For example, a spider can be made from wire and cloth, a dragon from ropes on a stick, etc. When such crafts are the fruit of the joint activity of children and parents, the results of eliminating fears are usually better, especially with the participation of the father.

Sometimes a child refuses to portray his fear and even explains this by saying that he cannot draw. There is no need to pressure the child. It’s better to say that fear is not good, so it’s even good if it doesn’t come out beautiful. Draw your former fear. So you, firstly, will show that everyone can be afraid, and there is nothing shameful in this, and secondly, by your example you will make it clear that fear can be overcome. Then invite the child to draw something that he was afraid of “when he was little.” After that, you can move on to the fears that are present now.

The question arises: is it possible to immediately invite children to draw themselves as not being afraid, to save time, so to speak? Yes, you can, but the effect will be lower and not as persistent. It takes time for the child to overcome the internal psychological barrier of insecurity and fear of his fears, then there will be a gradual deactivation of fear in his mind and faith in his strengths, capabilities, and abilities will develop.

Drawing himself, the child is freed from fears, changing the situation for the better!

For a child, this is a way of self-development.
