One of the most effective ways to overcome fear is to draw it, and then transform it directly on paper into something new. By changing his drawing, a person does a great deal of inner work on his idea of a frightening situation. Dogs in the world will remain the same barking and toothy, but the attitude towards them will change.

There are several ways to draw fear:

1. Draw an image of fear. Fear can be depicted as a being, as an object, as a natural phenomenon, etc. Sometimes leading questions help to imagine fear: “What does your fear look like?”, “What does it look like?”, “How scared are you?”, “What is it, your fear?”. Drawing a portrait of your fear is excellent for people with well-developed imaginative thinking.
2. Describe a situation in which a person experiences fear. The most standard approach, you can simply draw a situation schematically, so almost everyone can do it.
3. Draw the feeling of fear that arises in the body. For those who in a conversation describe their inner feelings: “everything has gone cold”, “the heart has gone to the heels”, “the tongue has gone numb”, etc.
4. Draw the very first case that frightened a person. When a dog threw himself as a child, or when the class laughed at the answer, or when he almost drowned.
5. Make a mask, make a costume of fear or individual elements and turn into your fear for a while, play it. Particularly suitable for fear of the dark and ghosts. This option is suitable for children who do not like to draw.
6. Draw a face expressing fear, horror, fear. Such a drawing is very difficult to remake, you have to turn on the imagination at full power!
What way to draw fear to choose? Pay attention to what the person says about his fear: about the situation, about the sensations, about the monsters he represents. It is exactly what he is talking about that should be drawn in the first place.

In the future, if you need several sessions, you can try all the methods – this way you will process the fear “from all sides”.

How to determine that the fear has passed? When your artist starts talking and drawing it is easy, stress-free and maybe even boring.

Important!

To overcome fear, the drawing does not need to be erased, torn or burned. Fear is part of the psyche. If you just pull it out of there, there will be a hole in the psyche that will be filled with another problem. It is better to fill it yourself by transforming fear into some new attitude – make it neutral, calm, cheerful, kind, etc. It is this image that will be fixed in the mind of the painter.
