Art therapy for uncertainty

Art therapy for uncertainty

Loss of support, ambiguity and uncertainty are the new functionals of reality. Previously, it seemed like a disaster when a person could not say what he would do in a year, but now the answer “we’ll see how it will be” is increasingly becoming the norm.
And worst of all, it’s good. When we know and understand everything, we kind of have everything under “control”, all the variables of reality are taken into account – this is an illusion, and it is utopian for the future. If this is so, then we are following the old program of experience, in which there is no place for really new possibilities. And as a result, growth and improvement. Personal resistance to change is our reflex function, which originates in the adaptive mechanisms of our body as a means of survival. And if this is not trained and used, then the end of personal evolution will come.
“Therefore, the scarier, the cooler,” our reality says. The more you try, the more you explore, the more you learn.
But the level of anxiety about uncertainty can often interfere with the production of positive potential for survival: joy, pleasure, interest, impressions. This is where art therapy comes in.

Often, when I sit in front of a white sheet and think about what to draw, I have exactly the same state as uncertainty about the future, and I repeatedly see the same thing in others. Art therapists call this “fear of a white sheet.” After all, you can make a mistake, do it wrong or ugly and get a lot of social condemnation, primarily from yourself.
But making the choice of color and the first stroke, plucking up the courage to even ruin the sheet, you get the image. And he likes and finds continuation in memories or projects.

So, the same effect can be used exactly the opposite way:
– when it’s scary that you can’t control everything in life;
– you have to accept or change something;
– when you don’t know what’s going to happen.

Just draw:
– color combinations in lines – this will make it possible to streamline thoughts and systematize desires;
– light color compositions – will inspire you to live an emotional experience;
– spontaneous drawings – relieve unnecessary stress.

In general, to summarize: by running paint on a sheet of paper, we leave our symbolic chaos and experiences there, making room for an analysis of the real operating conditions of the new in our lives.
