“To see is to forget the name of the thing you see”

In the first part of the book, you will learn to see. Perceptual drawing can be mind-numbing at first, but once you get on track it will be much easier and you may find its therapeutic effect. You will need to let love be your goal, instead of academic standards, your mother’s approval, successful sales, or just plain old self-imposed ideas of perfection.

Training exercises. Main directions: vertical, horizontal, diagonal.

What is meant by direction? Direction is the vertical, horizontal, or diagonal edge of an object that can be seen from your vantage point.

Vertical direction and its properties.

Look at the various vertical directions in your field of vision. Think about their properties. for example: aspiration to the sky, rise, support, alignment, strength.

Think about how you feel when you stand up straight – you are healthy, independent, self-confident, ready for creative accomplishments, unique.

List in your diary what properties of vertical direction come to your mind.

(delight, aspiration, freedom, flight, instability, risk)

To perform the following exercise, you can use simple pencils, pens, colored pencils, in a word, everything that comes to hand.

These are very simple training exercises to help you access visual information in the world around you.

Exercise 1.

3. Pay attention to vertical directions: doors, windows, lamps, table legs, wall fences. What properties of vertical direction do you need in your life at the moment? Confidence? Force? Good health? Alignment? Independence? Positive relationship?1358755763_luyzhi1 (200x301, 15Kb)

4. Choose to draw something that expresses these properties.

5. Gently touch the paper with the pencil. Relax your wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder. Move your pencil in the same direction as the vertical edge of what you are looking at. As you draw this line, imagine and feel that you are imbued with this property.

6.Wherever you go today, look for vertical directions and feel how this property grows in you.

I chose balance and confidence for myself. As symbols – a pose of a tree and a column in antique style. Diligently looking for verticals, I found that I rarely look up. As an anchor, they worked perfectly about confidence and balance, I remembered regularly.
