According to the peculiarities of how your child creates his next masterpiece, you can draw conclusions about the level of his psycho-neurological development in the early stages and possible problems. The sooner parents pay attention to oddities in the creative process and turn to a specialist for advice, the more effectively help can be provided. Let’s clarify what to look for when your child draws.
Here is a list of features to look out for if your child is just over 2 years old.
1. The child does not hold firmly and securely what he can draw with.
2. The child does not see the border of the sheet, begins to manipulate outside the sheet of paper.
3. The child is not able to scribble for more than 20 seconds, he becomes not interested.
4. The child does not look at what he draws, look separately – the process of drawing separately.
5. The child does not watch how loved ones draw near him.
6. The child, diligently tries to paint over the entire sheet and does not leave a clean place, and so on all the time.
7. The child does not try to draw with food either on a plate or smear food on the table … does not show interest in this.
8. The child, silently and for a long time, draws small details for more than 7-10 minutes.
9. The child constantly tries to line the sheet into geometric fragments.
10. The child tears or constantly crumples a sheet of paper, not showing interest in the drawing process.
11. A child screams and throws away drawing materials.
12. The child constantly hides what he does, closing himself even from loved ones.
13. A child can only draw by looking at himself in the mirror and talking to himself.
14. The child constantly gnaws or eats a sheet of paper and pencils.
15. Child often closes eyes when drawing and making strange comments.
16. The child draws as if he is hitting a sheet of paper, knocking on it, stopping only when a hole appears in the sheet.
17. The child constantly draws something, ignoring other types of play and object activities.
18. The child draws complex semantic drawings or portraits beyond his age.
19. The child constantly draws only on the body, and not on a sheet of paper (although drawing on yourself is the norm).
20. The child rubs a sheet of paper with his finger to the hole, ignoring the materials for creativity.
21. The child does not try to draw in different colors, does not react to color.
22. The child does not show any interest in drawing and other types of play activities.
If there are more than three indicators from the list, bring and show the child to a psychologist.
