Then the sea water began to leave little by little, and in different places the islands emerged from the water. And where the water did not have time to escape, lagoons formed. A little more time passed, and grass and trees grew on these islands. And animals came out of the sea and began to get used to life on land. Came to these islands and people. They ate fish and crabs, turtles and shells, and plucked fruit from the trees.

On one of these islands lived two sisters – Kurramara and Nakari. These sisters were brave hunters and fished well. They once rested by the lagoon. One of the sisters, the one named Nakari, caught an unprecedented fish of unprecedented size. This fish was pale, round and flat. And the sisters called this fish Moon-fish. The Moon-fish turned out to be heavy. Barely pulled her sisters out of the water. The sisters went to look for roots so that the fish would be tastier. And the Moon-fish was left in the thick grass, under a large tree. The sisters collected a lot of roots and came back to the lagoon. The sisters were very hungry and thought a lot about how they would eat fish with roots. But there were no fish under the tree. The sisters searched for the Moon-fish for a long time. They look, and she is sitting on a branch of a large tree. Then she jumped to another branch. Higher and higher, the Moon-fish began to rise and finally jumped straight into the sky. And the Moon-fish swam across the vault of heaven with a large flat light ball, illuminating everything in heaven and on earth. Slowly and proudly, the Moon-fish swam across the sky, and it was large and important. This went on for many nights. But once the sisters saw in the sky only half of the Moon-fish, then a quarter, and then there was no Moon-fish at all.

– Someone there, in the sky, ate our fish! Kurramara screamed.

But she was wrong. The moon-fish was a sorceress and again came to heaven. At first, people saw only a piece of it. But it kept growing and growing, and finally floated across the firmament again as a large bright ball.

IN

_____________________________________

IN

IN

Pleiades and constellation Orion

IN

IN

Somehow, seven girls-sisters who lived in the sky began to play, and descended from the blue sky to the high mountains on Earth. On such mountains they descended, where icy rivers fall noisily into the abyss. That was a long time ago. Those girls lived in the mountains for a long time and were very sad and wept, because they did not know how to get back to their heavenly home. And those sisters were beautiful and cold, as the water flowing from the gorge was beautiful and cold.

One man named Vurunna caught two of the seven girls. And he made them live in his hut and sit with him around the fire. These sisters began to fade and wither away. But somehow they looked into the sky and saw their sisters there again, who pointed them to a tall tree. Those two girls ran up to the tree and begged him to help them get home. The tree took pity and began to grow rapidly. It grew and grew and rested its top in the sky. Both girls returned to their heavenly home, and again all seven sisters were together. True, the unfortunate captives were no longer as bright as their sisters, but dull and pale. This is how the constellation Pleiades appeared.

The seven earthly youths of the Berai-Beray tribe, who loved them on earth, looked sadly at the seven heavenly stars. These young men became bitter and lonely. But the good tree helped them too. The young men ascended to heaven and turned into the constellation of Orion. Every night they look at their beloved and listen to their soft singing.

IN

IN

Milky Way

IN

IN

IN

In those days when Pripriggi lived, there were no paths in the sky. The stars were then very young and bright and bored alone, because there was no road in the sky along which they could go to visit each other and dance in the long dark nights. This was before the Milky Way appeared.

And on Earth, people were happy, they often sang and danced around the fires. In all directions, roads stretched along the ground, smoothly trampled down by the feet of friends.

Pripriggi lived on a long spit at the mouth of the Pine River. He was a singer and dancer. When the horns sounded in the darkness and his tribe brothers painted themselves thickly with sacred clay, Pripriggi would sing a song and start a dance. And the songs the people sang were Priprigga’s songs, and the dances they danced were also Pripriggi’s. For this, people loved him, and he became strong, and proud, and happy from their respect. One morning, when the flying foxes returned from hunting and the noise of their squabbling died down, Pripriggi took his spear and wommer and went to the mangrove to look for prey. There was to be a great feast that night. Many tribes gathered at the corroboree. At night, the men will rap their spears, dance to Priprigga’s music, slap their thighs merrily, and pound with their heels. From his songs everyone will become joyful and good, and people will dance as beautifully as he does. But a feast needs food, and Pripriggy was a good hunter, too. The sky had not yet turned red in the east, flying foxes were still hanging on the mangrove trees like black fruits, and Pripriggy was silently creeping up to a huge tree where the largest and strongest flying foxes slept. Great strength and power lurked on this tree. Pripriggi hooked the vommer to the end of the spear and leaned back to throw the spear. He lowered his spear and it flew up. A terrible noise and whistle was heard from the flapping of many wings. The mangrove trees swayed and hummed as if in a storm, but the angry flock screamed and squealed even louder.

Flying foxes rushed down from the tops of the mangrove trees. Like frightened spirits, they rushed between the branches. They sank down to Priprigga, grabbed him and dragged him upstairs. The foxes broke through the green veil of foliage and took off into the sky. The wings of the foxes that Priprigga carried away were drawn in black stripes at dawn. People from the tribe of Pripriggi heard the whistling and flapping of wings, ran out of the huts and saw that the flying foxes were carrying Pripriggi away. Those tribes that came to the corroboree also woke up and also saw how Pripriggi, like a star, swept through the sky. He flew so fast that a wisp of smoke trailed behind him. When the whistling of the wings subsided and the smoky trail disappeared, from the sky, from behind the farthest star, people heard the voice of Priprigga. He sang his farewell song to them. It was the very last song of Priprigga, and he sang it from the sky, and everyone knew that there, in the sky, he could no longer sing. With this song, he said goodbye to people.

And they listened to him, and a new dance was born in their imagination, and suddenly everyone began to stamp their feet, wave their hands and shake their heads. And they sang Priprigga’s farewell song, as he sang it himself. Everyone sang it that night. And they danced a new dance to the last song of Priprigga. Of all the dances, this was the most beautiful dance, and of all the songs, Priprigga’s last song was the most solemn. People were singing and dancing, looking up, and suddenly they saw how the Milky Way stretched across the sky. Before, it wasn’t there.

IN

IN

IN

[1000

post-25760","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-art-therapy
["GET
